Seminar on ‘Pakistan: On the Horns of a Dilemma’ 10 March 2012

The Democracy Forum hosted a very successful seminar in the Alumni Theatre, London School of Economics on 10 March 2012. Entitled ‘Pakistan: On the Horns of a Dilemma’, the event began with a screening of the BBC documentary Secret Pakistan, which produces
substantive evidence that Pakistan is involved in training and harbouring Taliban militants in Afghanistan and that it is being duplicitous in its alleged ‘war on terror’. The aim of the seminar was to analyse the current political/military situation in Pakistan with a view to offering encouragement to liberal forces in that country.

The speakers were: Stephen Hammond MP, Chairman of The Democracy Forum and Secretary of the All Party Parliamentary Group on India; Dr William Crawley, Institute of Commonwealth Studies (Chair); Dr C Christine Fair, Georgetown University, Security Studies Program; Nigel Inkster, International Institute for Strategic Studies; Professor Yunas Samad, University of Bradford; and Professor Athar Hussain, Asia Research Centre, LSE.

An audience of about 60 people, including students, attended the event, which generated much lively and wide-ranging debate. Three different TV channels and various newspaper correspondents were also present.
