Arab-Israeli strategic realignment and the growing isolation of Pakistan in the OIC

CHAIR: Duncan Bartlett (A journalist and editor, specialising in Asia)

ABOUT THE SEMINAR

The decision by the United Arab Emirates to recognise Israel has split the Islamic world. While some countries welcome the move as a step towards normalising relations in the Middle East, others, including Pakistan, have condemned it as an act of treachery to the Palestinians. Pakistan has also clashed with other Muslim nations over the situation in Kashmir, leaving it at risk of being isolated within the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation – and internationally – as its hopes of uniting with fellow Muslim countries against India on Kashmir fail to materialise. In the run-up to November's US presidential election, The Democracy Forum invites two highly respected political commentators to discuss this complex issue in an online seminar entitled ‘Arab-Israeli strategic realignment and Pakistan's growing isolation within the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’. On the panel will be Dr Ayesha Siddiqa, a political scientist, author and research associate at the SOAS South Asia Institute, and MJ Akbar, a veteran journalist and politician who previously served as India's Minister of State for External Affairs. The virtual event will be moderated by journalist Duncan Bartlett.

A discussion on Arab-Israeli strategic realignment and the growing isolation of Pakistan in the OIC

In the run-up to November’s US presidential election, The Democracy Forum invites two highly respected political commentators to discuss this complex issue in an online seminar entitled ‘Arab-Israeli strategic realignment and Pakistan’s growing isolation within the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’.

On the panel will be Dr Ayesha Siddiqa, a political scientist, author and research associate at the SOAS South Asia Institute, and MJ Akbar, a veteran journalist and politician who previously served as India’s Minister of State for External Affairs.

The virtual event will be moderated by journalist Duncan Bartlett.
